The Mobile Phone Market Continues To Grow
As the mobile phone industry continues to go from strength to strength, we are seeing old favourites such as Vodafone mobile phones and LG Mobile Phones come under threat from the new “kids on the block”, with an increase in the popularity of Virgin mobile phones . There is also severe pricing pressure for older technology phones, with many websites now offering cheap mobile phones of every brand. This in turn is leading to new and more innovative phone technology, which can command premium pricing.
One market which seems to be coming under renewed attack by the majors is the business market, and hand held organisers. Devices such as Blackberry Mobile Phones have long held a firm foothold in this market, but they are being pressurised into releasing new, improved versions of their technology. The fight to stay one step ahead is causing many of the smaller mobile phone companies to reconsider their long term funding requirements, and many are expecting a spate of mergers in the near future.
As we enter a new era, with online content and technological innovation in high demand, there is every chance of a major change in the make up of the industry. Will we see a new entrant to the industry, for example Google?
